History

A Brief History of America's Best Truck

This is everything you need to know to get up to speed on the Chevy Silverado. The history of Chevy's Silverado begins with Chevy's iconic C and K series full-size pickup trucks. The C/K models span four generations between 1959 and 2000. So what is the difference between the C and the K series trucks? About eight letters. more It was the drivetrains. The C was rear-wheel drive. And the K was four-wheel drive. Chevy C/K trucks were trusty steeds and were well-loved by anyone who made an honest living hauling heavy payloads: ranchers, farmers, fishermen, race teams, farm farmers, fish racers, etc... In the late '70s, Chevy introduced the name Silverado as a trim level of their third generation C/K truck. It was a bit classier with chrome trim and a snazzy interior but maintained the offroad ruggedness that earned the Like A Rock reputation. By the early '90s, them boys 'n girls at GM realized that the landscape of the American truck market had changed. Imported trucks had created a new small truck market through the '80s. And Chevy knew that they had to go one of two ways with their new truck line. Smaller and more fuel-efficient? Or bigger and more manly? So what would they do? They already had the tiny S10 pickups, so they went bigger! Chevy doubled down with the Silverado and decided that while the other guys were all chasing their tales making little baby trucks, they would position the Silverado as the workhorse against which other's workhorses would be measured. In 1998 through the 1999 model year, a bigger, badder Chevy truck, the Silverado, finally made it onto the scene. The Silverado was setting a new standard for trucks. It was bigger, faster, stronger, and smarter. The Silverado 1500 got better gas mileage than the F150, made more power than the Dodge Ram, and could tow more than either of them. After proving itself to be America's best truck, the Silverado earned Motor Trend's Truck of the Year award. Sure, they gave it to the Mercedes M-Class the year before and the Aerostar Minivan in 1990, but that's beside the point. During this generation, the top of the food chain, the large adult son of the Chevy truck lineup, was the 3500HD which stands for Heavy Duty. And get ready, all you diesel nerds, here's the thing you've been waiting for. Duramax! The 3500 Heavy Duty was powered by a 6.6L Duramax diesel V8 and cranked out 360 horsepower and 650-pound feet of torque. This big boy could tow almost 17,000 pounds and haul around 5,000 pounds in the bed. But what if you don't need to haul heavy stuff? What if the only thing you need to haul is you and your crazy friends around? Enter the Chevy Silverado Super Sport, a 345 horsepower beast powered by Chevy's 6L LQ9 V8. It came with a four-speed automatic gearbox, all-wheel drive, and had an aggressive four-ten gear ratio for basically burnouts. It was a burnout truck. By 2006, it would come with more cool upgrades like performance suspension, 20-inch wheels, and even a limited edition Intimidator SS, which I will talk about - right now. Dale Earnhardt was one of the winningest race car drivers in American history. The very sight of Dale in the rearview was enough to make you quiver with fear. Catching a glimpse of that legendary mustache intimidated the competition into submission, thus the Intimidator. In 2006, five years after Dale's tragic death, Chevy honored his memory with the Intimidator SS edition. This sport truck only came in Onyx Black and had a whole bunch of sick appearance upgrades like a rear spoiler on a truck, headrests emblazoned with an image of Dale winning against a big E, and Intimidator badges all over. Handling was improved. It had bigger anti-roll bars with the locking 3.73 diff in the back. You know what that means, right? Big old smoking burnouts with both tires spinning! Do it for Dale! I really liked this guy, and everybody should go watch a NASCAR race. At least once. As fun as race-inspired trucks are, they're not the reason most people buy trucks. Most people who buy trucks, buy trucks because they're rough and ready work doers. And that brings us to perhaps the most iconic Silverado there is, the Z71. I know you've seen the iconic Z71 badge. I'm about to tell you cute, little babies what it means. Originally, Z71 was just an internal code for an options package. The Z71 package came with upgraded Bilstein shocks, skid plates, and an offroad-ready locking rear diff for ordering purposes. To GM's complete surprise, the Z71 sold like hotcakes. And why wouldn't it? The fact that the most purpose-built version of Chevy's most purpose-built truck further proved that when you wanted a real truck workhorse, you got a Chevy. Chevy had also been running their Like A Rock ads for over a decade. And by 2004, I guess they figured they'd made their point. Chevy's new umbrella slogan for all of their vehicles was- Chevy Silverado, an American Revolution. And they tried to expand their market share. Chevy offered the Silverado as a hybrid in 2004, dubbed- the Silverado Hybrid. The Silverado Hybrid was also the first mild hybrid that used an electric motor to help with starting up, charging batteries, and powering accessories. So, it wasn't really one. The second generation Silverado was everything the first generation was and more. It debuted in 2007 and got a more plush, more upscale interior, with a revised exterior, smaller panel gaps, and tighter lines. It sat atop an entirely new frame and completely revised suspension. The new frame improved body stiffness by a massive 92%, a bigger transformation than Christian Bale going from The Machinist to The Dark Knight in under a year. The new 6.2L, 403 horsepower Vortec V8 was now available to make the new truck faster and haul more lbs. The new, sleeker body design offered better fuel economy, which was getting more important while America entered the Great Recession. Speaking of fuel economy, you can finally get a six-speed automatic transmission, a much-welcomed upgrade over the previous gen's dog of a four-speed. Welcome to the 21st Century, Silverado! Chevy aimed to make it even better. 2014 saw the introduction of a brand new Silverado after the second gen's seven-year run. The third generation K2XX Silverado came on the scene with updated bodywork, a better grill, bigger wheel arches, and a host of new trims and engines. What else were you expecting? It's a Chevy. For the third-gen Silverado, GM did away with the Vortec family of V8s and introduced the Ecotec V6s and V8s. They made more power, baby! With this generation, Chevy made a bunch of changes that increased the strength and dropped the weight of the new Silverado. They used aluminum in the hood, engine block, and massive control arms to save weight. Ask your grandpappy if he ever thought the hood of a Chevy truck would be made out of aluminum. And he'd say, "Who are you?" This was also the first time the Silverado had a model with high luxury, high spec, and high class. The High Country came with a beautiful leather interior, all the amenities you could want, and because it's a Chevy, special badging! The biggest development with the third-gen Silverado was the massive amount of special editions. Whoo boy, were there special editions. There was the Texas edition, Alaskan edition, Rally edition 1, Rally edition 2, Blackout edition, Midnight edition, Midnight HD edition, Custom Sport edition, Realtree edition, Redline edition, Special Ops edition, and High Desert edition. I think that's it. It was all kinds of trucks for all kinds of people. In 2019 Chevy debuted the fourth generation, T1XX Silverado. It has an even more aggressive front end, more muscular wheel arches, Robocop-inspired headlights, and a healthy mix of engines. This one is also the first time Chevy has put a 2.7 liter turbo under the hood of a Silverado. This turbo four-cylinder engine gets as much as 22 pounds of boost. This little puppy cranks outs 310 horsepower and 348 pound-feet of torque. Just like before, if you've got a pulse, they got a Silverado for you. And don't lament the loss of the Z71 package because they still got two of them, the Trail Boss and Custom Trail Boss. The Trail Bosses have a lift, offroad tires, and of course, a skid plate. And it doesn't stop there; the old Duramax diesel V8 gives you 910 pound-feet of torque through a new Allison ten-speed. For 2021, the Silverado saw relatively few changes. Most notably, the Silverado 1500 offers the newly named Multi-Flex six-position tailgate, which is borrowed from the GMC Sierra, and the introduction of wireless CarPlay and Android Auto projection capability. In addition, 2.7L 4-cylinder and 3.0L Duramax diesel-equipped Silverado see increased tow capacity ratings and new towing technology, including a jack-knife alert and trailer length indicator. New for the 2022 model year is a 13.4-inch Infotainment 3 touchscreen infotainment system that is standard on all Silverado 1500 models except for the Work Truck and Custom trims, as well as a new fully digital instrument cluster. Base model (Work Truck and Custom) trucks will retain the smaller infotainment system screen and instrument cluster from the outgoing pre-facelift Silverado 1500. An all-new ZR2 model will be the most capable model in the Silverado 1500 lineup and will include a standard 6.2L EcoTec3 V8 gasoline engine. Silverado 1500 models equipped with front bucket seats will also offer a center console-mounted shift lever for the first time.

Placeanorder

Can't find New Vehicles – Time To Place an Order

The frustration of finding a new Chevrolet in the model and trim you want is hard for many of you. And then, finding suitable options and colors gets even more challenging. Finally, finding a dealer that will offer a reasonable price even if you find the vehicle you want is difficult and potentially strike three. Rather than wait and keep trying month after month, perhaps it is time to consider ordering the vehicle you want. Let's walk through some Chevrolet models, and we will give you some considerations on ordering them and tell you where they are made. First, the MSRP of the vehicle is subject to change if you want to reserve one that is on order but not ordered specifically in your name. If Chevrolet increases the MSRP before the vehicle is built and invoiced to us, it gets the new MSRP even if it was ordered before the price change. On the other hand, if we order the vehicle in your name (this is also called a sold order), the MSRP is locked from the date of the order. Secondly, when we place an order with your exact build, the time it takes to get built is compressed as Chevrolet will place a higher priority on sold orders. Another advantage of sold orders is the ability to get your rebates in the current month protected for when the vehicle lands. So rebates like Conquest, Costco, customer cash, etc. can be locked in. And the great part of it is that if the rebates are better when the vehicle gets here, you can use those rebates instead! This rebate protection program runs through 1/31/22, and it has been going for a while, but the program is month to month at the discretion of Chevrolet. We, unfortunately, cannot lock in finance terms or incentives. more Chevrolet encourages dealers to sell more vehicles by rewarding them with more allocation to build new units. Basically, if you sell more, you earn more. That is why we continue to be aggressive on price and offer our customers a transparent sales process. We know that this shortage isn't forever, and our aggressive pricing strategy is a long-term strategy to earn more new vehicles. CAMARO We have lots of Camaros on the way, but all of them are sold. The good news is that we should see strong replenishments within the next month (February or March). As one of the nation's top sellers of ZL1 Camaros, we will have a larger allocation than most. That means getting your order in with us will lead to you getting your Camaro before someone who reserves theirs from another dealership. A great alternative option is the 1LZ, otherwise known as the LT1 trim. That is an 8-cylinder Camaro without many bells and whistles but has an excellent price. Sold order pricing through 2/28/22 is $250 off MSRP before applying rebates. This vehicle is made in Michigan, so it shouldn't take long to get to us once built. Shop On Order Camaros EQUINOX If you want a neat-looking Equinox, the new RS trim is sharp. We have several of these coming. But, if you want an LS, LT, or Premier, those can be ordered. Unfortunately, Chevrolet has reduced manufacturing of those trims, and nationwide supply is abysmal. Sold order pricing through 2/28/22 is $2,000 off MSRP before applying rebates. These are made both in Canada and Mexico, and they are pretty quick to get to us once built. Over the past year or two, the biggest issue has been Chevrolet diverting microchips to more profitable models and limiting the production of the Equinox. This year, we hope that Chevrolet solves that problem, and Equinox should see greater availability. Shop On Order Equinox BLAZER Blazer has been another victim of chip supply issues. These are built in Mexico and get to us quickly once built. Like the Equinox, we offer $2,000 off MSRP for sold order pricing before applying any rebates. Shop On Order Blazers SILVERADO, SUBURBAN, AND TAHOE Silverado HD, especially crew cabs, is an area where we can order exceptional numbers. We are massive volume sellers of HDs. Likewise, we sell high volumes of the Silverado 1500 crew cabs. And we are far and away the top-selling Tahoe dealer in Alabama and rank in the top 1% of all Chevrolet dealers nationwide. The Tahoe and Suburban are made in Arlington, TX, and they have a short turnaround from manufacture date to delivery. The Silverado HDs are made in Oshawa, Canada, and Flint, MI, while the Silverado LDs are made in Mexico, Fort Wayne, IN, and soon in Oshawa, Canada. So they don't take too long to get to us at regular times. Silverado HDs Silverado 1500s Tahoes Suburbans COLORADO We anticipate some decent Colorado quantity to order over the next two months, so reach out to us on ordering these. The national supply of Colorados is limited, so ordering is a good option. Additionally, they are made near St Louis, MO, in Wentzville and have a very fast turnaround. Shop On Order Colorados TRAVERSE Traverse has been a victim of the chip crisis, as the quantity built has not kept up with demand. These are made in Lansing, MI, and like the Colorado arrive quickly once built. We do have the allocation for sold orders, so reach out to us to order one. Shop On Order Traverses TRAILBLAZER AND TRAX Like all of Chevrolet's lower profit vehicles, the Trailblazer and Trax have been victims of reduced production. As a result, we cannot place an order for a customer and only get what Chevrolet allows us. Unlike other vehicles, where we can specifically build what we want, the units are made in South Korea and only what Chevrolet has available parts for. They are shipped by boat to ports in the United States, and then we get them sent to us. You can reach out to us about what you are looking for, and we can monitor what is being built to see if it is a match. On Order Trailblazer On Order Trax SPARK The Spark is also built in South Korea, but these have not been allocated to dealers in months. The Spark is not a higher priority for Chevrolet given its low profitability for GM. It will be discontinued after the 2022 model year. We expect to get some allocation before production is terminated, so if you are interested, let us know quickly. Learn More About The Spark MALIBU If you have been shopping for a Malibu recently, you know how hard they are to find. The Kansas City plant that builds them has been mostly idle during the pandemic and has recently started ramping back up. Supply is coming back in light quantities, so if you want one, reach out to us. Shop On Order Malibu BOLT EV/EUV We have lots of these on order, but we are still waiting on production to get started with the battery recall consuming so much capacity on batteries. Still, let us know if you have a specific order, you would like, and we can be on the watch for the ability to order it. Shop Bolt EVs Shop Bolt EUVs

How to Reserve On Order

How to Shop Our On Order Page

We attempted to make shopping our On-Order page as easy as possible. This post will walk you through the basics and give you some simple how-to-search suggestions to make your life easier. So let's dive into it. We designed our On-Order page because inventory shortages have forced us to sell out of our scheduled inventory that has not been built yet. As a result, we know the vehicle's exact exterior color, interior color, engine, transmission, options, and so forth. The only things we don't know are things that are designated once the vehicle has been built, namely the VIN and MSRP. Those two items are pretty essential to advertise a car on our website, so we had to get a little creative. Our On Order page is that workaround. more For example, you are shopping for a Silverado 1500 High Country with Super Cruise. You notice that we don't have what you want on our traditional inventory pages, so you follow the link to our On Order page. From here, you can click the type of inventory you are shopping for. Since this example is for Silverado 1500s, you will click the Silverado 1500 On Order page. That will take you to a page that looks like this one. The top part discusses what an On Order vehicle is and why it is crucial to reserve it. The main reason to reserve is it guarantees you that exact vehicle and that exact discount. While we can't give you the final price from this page, you can figure out what incentives you qualify for and add our discount to them. That will provide you with a rough idea of how much your vehicle will be, and you can budget accordingly. Reserving your car will also allow us to lock in your incentives if your vehicle does not arrive before the end of the month. That is important for two reasons. First, if Chevrolet's rebates go down, you will pay the locked-in lower price. Second, if their rebates go up, we can just sell you the vehicle for the new lower price. It is a win-win for you. This applies to cash rebates only; unfortunately, we cannot lock in finance offers. Below is the example of the Silverado 1500 Limited. How to Read the On-Order Page Let's go back to our example. The Silverado 1500 On Order page can be a little overwhelming at first. Don't worry; it is easier to navigate than you think. Each Silverado 1500 is shown in its own box. There are seven rows in each box. Order # - This is the order number you give us to reserve your vehicle for you. It is a unique number like a stock number or VIN and will ensure you get exactly what you want. Vehicle - This line is an important one. It will show the year, model, drivetrain, and bed size. Exterior Color/Interior Color - Exactly what you think it is. You can also use the Interior Color to determine if the vehicle has leather or cloth seats. Trim - You can find the trim level and critical designations like Trail Boss on this row. Engine - You will find the engine's displacement and special designations like diesel or turbo on this row. Transmission - While we currently don't have any manuals, you can see what kind of automatic transmission is on the vehicle. Options - This is probably an important row once you know what you are looking for. We encourage you to reach out to us if you don't know what specific option packages have in them, but this row will help you narrow your search to the perfect vehicle. The pictures provided reflect the build of the actual vehicle. You will be able to ascertain the wheels, running boards, colors, and interior material. All On Order pages are filtered by descending trim level, but Silverado 1500s are further divided into two sections. The first section is the 2022 Silverado Limited. Think of the Silverado 1500 Limited as the 2021 Silverado 1500 that has been named a 2022. I know that is confusing, but here is a post to clarify what a Limited is. The second section is the updated 2022 Silverado 1500. These updated 2022 models have an entirely new interior and a slightly adjusted front bumper. How to Easily Search Since you are looking for a High Country with Super Cruise, the easiest way to search for that will be through an on-page search. You have the most straightforward method on a desktop or laptop. Hold down the Control (Ctrl) button and the F key. That will bring up a page search tool that will allow you to type in "Super Cruise." Use the pictures below as a guide to help you. Use Ctrl+F and type in what you are looking for. Works on all desktop and laptop browsers. If you are on a cell phone, it depends on your internet browser. If you are an iPhone user, you are probably using Safari. To search on Safari, go down to the share icon just below the URL. It will look like a box with an arrow pointing up. Click that button and scroll up until you see "Find on Page." Click that button, and it will open a text search. Type in "Super Cruise" and it will find every instance of the words you typed in. For Android users or if you use Chrome, the method is similar. Go to the share icon, again a box with an arrow pointing up. Click that button and scroll down until you find the "Find on Page." Click that and type in what you want to search. It will see whatever you type in, and you can use the up and down arrows to bounce between your results. I am trying to help you shop for yourself, but if you don't have the time or it is too much to go through, please give us a call. Our sales team is trained to look at our incoming inventory. We will help you find your next car and lock in a price you can be happy with. So why pay over MSRP at another dealership with you can lock in precisely what you want at below MSRP with us?

Super Cruise

Super Cruise - The Better Driver Assistant

I will cover a somewhat controversial topic: GM's Super Cruise and why I think it's better than Tesla Autopilot. I believe Super Cruise is the best self-driving system available today in any car. Those who don't know Super Cruise is GM's self-driving system. It is fantastic, and we recently drove the latest version of Super Cruise in the new Cadillac Escalade, and today, I'm going to explain how it works and what makes it so great. Every new car brand has this. So you have Volvo Pilot Assist, Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Drive, Tesla Autopilot, and blah blah blah. Of course, they all have different names, but the basic idea is that the vehicle can drive itself based on specific criteria. These vehicles are equipped with various sensors and cameras that relay information to the car and tell it to speed up or slow down. The automation extends to the steering and braking functions as well. more Self-driving vehicles are getting common, especially in luxury cars. The second best system is Tesla Autopilot, but the best one is GM's Super Cruise. Super Cruise will be in 22 different GM vehicles by 2023, and 10 vehicles by 2022. We have orders in for the Silverado 1500 High Country with Super Cruise. These vehicles are available to reserve now by clicking here. You can also get Super Cruise on your Silverado EV, and you can reserve yours here. LET ME REPEAT. We have orders placed to build multiple Silverado 1500 High Country units with Super Cruise that have already been placed with GM. We anticipate ordering more, so if you want to get an order with the exact features and colors along with Super Cruise, contact us to start a sold order customized to your needs. Reach out to us to put an order in for exactly what you are looking for. What is Super Cruise and What Does It Do? GM came out with this truly fantastic high-tech self-driving system, and then they put it into lower sales volume vehicles like the Cadillac CT6 and the Chevrolet BOLT EUV. That is the main reason you haven't heard much about Super Cruise. GM designed this fantastic technology and limited it to some less desirable vehicles. These vehicles were equipped with an older version of Super Cruise and did not have automatic lane change. This kind of limited rollout makes sense as a way to make sure Super Cruise is everything GM expected it to be. The newer version found in the Silverado 1500 High Country is the one we tested. Super Cruise works in a very similar fashion to your standard cruise control. On the steering wheel, the cruise control buttons activate what at first looks like adaptive cruise control. Most luxury vehicles have a version of this, and it just means that your car will slow down if a vehicle is going slower than you are in your lane. Once the cruising speed is set and the car is ready, a gray steering wheel icon appears on the gauge cluster. That is when you know that Super Cruise is ready to be used. At this point, you don't have to activate Super Cruise if you don't want to and could continue to drive with standard adaptive cruise control. There is a second button on the steering wheel to engage Super Cruise. This button has the same icon as the steering wheel icon on the dash. When you click it, your steering wheel will light up blue, letting you know that Super Cruise is activating. Once the blue light turns green, you know the vehicle is driving itself. What happens next is pretty cool. As long as the green light stays illuminated, you can keep your hands off the wheel, and as long as you're looking forward, the green light will remain illuminated indefinitely. There are a few exceptions that we will talk about. With over 200,000 miles of eligible roads, Super Cruise can drive for hours without needing any input from you. It will steer, brake, and accelerate all on its own. The only requirement is you remain facing forward. The newest version of Super Cruise can even change lanes. When you're ready to change lanes or come up to a slower car and need to pass it, press the turn signal, the vehicle will start searching for an opening. Once it finds one, it automatically moves over and changes lanes. You can then stay in the lane, or once you pass the slower vehicle, activate the turn signal again and go back to your original lane. The vehicle does all of this without you having to touch the steering wheel. The minimal input is a nice touch and helps keep me engaged with the road. Since Super Cruise can make drives from Birmingham to Nashville or Atlanta to Dallas, it seems like an important feature to remind people that they are still behind the wheel of a car going over 60 MPH. There Are Two Limitations to Super Cruise There are two crucial limitations. Number one, as I've mentioned, to use Super Cruise, you must be sitting in the driver's seat and looking forward. You have to be watching the road. Super Cruise has this little camera mounted right in the middle of the steering wheel, and that camera watches your eyes. If your eyes aren't looking at the road, Super Cruise knows that you aren't paying attention and you're not engaging with what's happening in front of you, and you're a risk behind the wheel. So the green steering wheel light will begin flashing to remind you to focus on the road. It is worth noting that you can look away from the road for a few seconds without Super Cruise getting upset with you. While I don't recommend using those few seconds to text, the system was designed so you can change the radio station or climate settings without constantly being alerted to look at the road. After like eight to ten seconds, that's when it starts to flash the green light and Super Cruise begins the process of assuming you are no longer paying attention. Then, the nice green light will become an angry red flashing light, and Super Cruise will start to deactivate. The deactivation process begins by vibrating the seat, and it will start to slow the vehicle down. There will be an alert on the gauge cluster telling you to take control of the vehicle, as well as an audio alert. At this point, you will be forced to drive the vehicle yourself, and you will have to go through the activation process again if you want Super Cruise to continue driving you. The second limitation is Super Cruise will only activate on mapped roads. Those familiar with Tesla's Autopilot might scoff at the idea it will only work on specific routes, but GM has mapped almost every interstate in the USA. Here is a picture of the most up-to-date map. This limitation means Super Cruise is best used during a long road trip. However, GM is constantly adding highways, and they are currently making an effort to include major local roadways to the list. So while this version of Super Cruise can't get you from your driveway to your local store without any input, it does make tedious long distant driving much more enjoyable. Yes, Tesla owners, I know that is a significant limitation but be honest. Are you using Tesla's Autopilot on small in city roads? Do you trust that much? I think Tesla's Autopilot does a good job on the highway, but it is slow and scary to drive around town. So I don't feel like this limitation is a fundamental limitation. I love future technology, but I am not comfortable letting Autopilot drive a vehicle around an urban area. Why Super Cruise Is The Better Driver Assistant I feel like Super Cruise beats out Tesla because you are totally hands-off. The camera system that watches your eyes means you don't have to constantly tap the steering wheel to let it know you are paying attention. That is the method used by Tesla, and it gets frustrating on longer drives to have one hand loosely on the steering wheel, or if you do take your hands off the steering wheel, the alerts you get to tap the wheel. GM's system, by comparison, doesn't have constant alerts because it knows if you are paying attention from your eyes alone. I know that doesn't sound like a big deal, but you need to try them both. Trust me, that slight distinction was enough for me to give GM's Super Cruise the nod. If I were comfortable trusting Autopilot on street roads, I would say Tesla is better, but I simply do not. Instead, I want a system that requires very little input on my part and only for straightforward drives. That means the mapped road system GM uses suits me perfectly. I love it going through Atlanta. It handles traffic perfectly and makes it so I don't have to manage the break and gas, and the vehicle gets me where I am going. Super Cruise will require your vehicle to be connected. This means some sort of data program through OnStar. You will receive a 3 year trial period when you buy your Silverado, and after the trial ends, it will be $25 per month for Super Cruise.

2022 Silverado 1500 Redesign

Get Ready For The 2022 Silverado 1500 Redesign

What to expect We are excited about the redesigned 2022 Silverado 1500. The redesign sees a new interior decked out in technology and comfort and a self-driving feature for higher trim options. In addition, the 2022 will see a renewed focus on engine options outside of the tried and true 5.3L V8. Instead, you can expect to see more 6.2L V8s and two very viable options in the 2.7L 4-cylinder and 3L 6-cylinder diesel. The new Silverado can tow up to 13,300 pounds and has a near-limitless number of technologies that help with towing. more What's new for 2022? Updated 2022 Silverado 1500 Interior Everyone who buys the redesigned 2022 Silverado will get a restyled front end, but only the LT and up have a new interior design. The redesign includes better cabin materials and a modern layout; these models have a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and a massive 13.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system. In addition, GM included many new safety features, and the High Country can be optioned with Super Cruise. Super Cruise only works on certain highways, but our experience with the technology has been nothing but positive. We are also excited about the first-ever ZR2 Silverado. You can see more pictures and a video by clicking here. 12.3-inch Digital Gauge Cluster and 13.4-inch Touchscreen Infotainment Center While the Work Truck and Custom trim levels are designed almost exclusively for people on a budget or those who only need it for work purposes, the LT model is where modern creature comforts become prevalent. The LT comes standard with the 2.7L turbo engine, and before you dismiss it for the V8, consider this. The 2.7L has seen an update and now delivers 420 lb-ft of torque, a significant 20% increase from the previous version. That means fantastic gas mileage in the city and power when you need it. Of course, the V8 will still be the favorite for some, but give the 2.7L a chance. You might find the lower towing capacity not as crucial as saving some upfront and long-term money. We expect to be out of the 2022 Silverado Limited (a version of the previous non-redesigned version of the Silverado) soon. Check them out while supplies last to save a bit of money. All-New Silverado ZR2 Towing and Payload Capacity The half-ton Silverado is a competent hauler with a max towing capacity of 13,300 pounds. It beats the Ram 1500's max-tow rating by 550 pounds but trails the F-150's by 700. Chevy's top tow rating is accessible with the diesel engine and the 6.2-liter V-8, but the 5.3-liter version can still handle as much as 11,500 pounds. Models with the turbocharged four-cylinder can tow up to 9500 pounds. Fuel Economy Don't expect the Silverado 1500 to save you money at the gas station; if you are interested in saving money there, check out what we know so far about the Silverado EV. The diesel offers the best MPG at an EPA estimated 23 mpg city and 33 mpg highway. The 2.7L has a respectable 20 mpg city and 22 highway. The 5.3L V8 gets a decent 16 mpg city and 22 mpg highway, and the 6.2L V8 gets similar ratings to the 5.3L. Unfortunately, we don't have a ton of real-world experience with these new engines, so stay tuned for a future post about our experience with each one. Interior, Comfort, and Cargo Silverado's Multiflex Tailgate From the utilitarian Work Truck model to the top-of-the-line High Country, the Silverado can be configured in many ways. Base models offer nothing but the essentials, including manually adjustable front seats, manual locks and windows, and vinyl seats. However, the cabin is significantly snazzier, starting on the LT trim thanks to a tech-filled dashboard design with a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and a colossal center touchscreen. The High Country's interior looks beautiful with leather upholstery and open-pore wood trim. The crew cab has a massive rear seat with generous headroom. In addition, this practical hauler features clever storage cubbies spread throughout the cabin. The Multi-flex tailgate is now available. Plus, the Silverado's range of different bed lengths will undoubtedly satisfy traditionalists. Infotainment and Connectivity Every Silverado 1500 is equipped with a touchscreen infotainment system that supports Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a mobile hotspot. The physical knobs and buttons make interacting with the system painless. In addition, the LT trim and up has enhanced features such as a Google-powered voice assistant, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and available Amazon Alexa integration. All in all, we could not be more excited about the new design and features that the 2022 Silverado delivers. So, if you want to reserve one, reach out to us or shop our vehicles on order. We expect our first deliveries of the redesigned Silverado to start early in the new year.

Heated Seats See Limited Production

General Motors is removing heated seats, ventilated seats, and heated steering wheels from various crossover and pickup models. That includes numerous Chevrolet vehicles, including the Blazer, Colorado, Equinox, Silverado 1500, Silverado HD, Trailblazer, and Traverse. The availability of the features depends on the model and trim level. Not all models and trims are affected equally. I will give you two guesses about the reason for the feature removal, and I bet it will only take you one. If you guessed microchip shortages due to supply issues, then give yourself a big pat on the back. more For those who may have missed it, the microchip shortage is forcing General Motors to reduce features across its lineup. The feature deletion is set to go into effect today, November 15th, while the deletion of the heated steering wheel feature will go into effect for specific vehicles on November 22nd. For now, it’s uncertain when the parts will be available, with the latest expectation that the feature reduction will remain in place through the remainder of the 2022 model year. We don't know when Chevrolet will produce these vehicles with heated seats again, it entirely depends on microchip supply. Credit or Delayed Delivery Options Affected vehicles may include a credit ranging between $50 and $500. Models affected by the heated seat issue are going to be retrofitted when the parts come in. If you are buying a vehicle with Heated Seats, you will buy the vehicle and when parts are available (ETA sometime in Q2 of 2022) we will retrofit your vehicle. There will be no cost to you and the process will be similar to getting a recall completed. When you purchase a car eligible for the retrofit you will be asked to sign a form acknowledging the heated seat function will be made available at a later date. Vehicles will retain non-functioning heated seat switches that will not work until the process is complete. The retrofitting process is only available for heated/ventilated seats and does not impact heated steering wheels at this time. Customers will receive a $50 credit from GM for the inconvenience. Heated front seats are the most heavily impacted feature, followed by ventilated front seats and heated steering wheels. The availability of heated outboard rear seats is also affected. You should also note that while some models may continue to offer a heated steering wheel, the automatic activation feature has been removed. Here is a complete overview of the Chevrolet models affected by the deletion of heated seats, ventilated seats, and heated steering wheels as of November 15th production. Trail Boss Constraints

2022 Silverado 1500 Limited Coming – Embrace the Confusion

Get ready to be confused, but hopefully, we can shed some light on the changes coming to the 2022 Silverado 1500. GM is doing something a little unusual. They will be producing the current Silverado 1500 and the new mid-cycle enhancement (MCE) Silverado 1500. This effectively means there will be two different versions of a 2022 Silverado 1500. Those of you with a keen eye may have noticed that having two different versions of a 2022 Silverado 1500 could be confusing. The good news we are here to help. more DIFFERENCE ON LIMITED Please think of the Limited as GM extending the production of the 2021 version because it was so popular. The reality is that COVID caused issues in the progression of the mid-cycle enhancement so they are extending the 2021 out further through the 2022 Limited to bridge the gap between the 2021 and enhancements for the 2022. So there are some changes between the 2021 model year and the 2022 Limited that you should know about. There are two notable differences. First, the Custom Trail Boss is no longer available with a 5.3L V8. Instead, it only comes in either the 2.7L Turbo or the 6.2L V8. Second, the MSRP on a 2.7L starts at $44,895 that includes the package discount for the 2.7L Turbo engine. That is notably cheaper than a Custom Trail Boss with the 5.3L V8 on the 2021 model year. The second difference is the introduction of the 3.0 diesel in the LT Trail Boss. This engine was not available for the 2021 model year LT Trail Boss. We have ordered plenty of the 2.7L Turbo Custom Trail Bosses and the 3.0 Diesel LT Trail Boss. You can go here to see all of our Silverado 1500s, 2021, and 2022 Limited on order. While not a concern yet, when you search for Silverado 1500s, you will eventually see the MCE 2022 Silverado 1500s alongside the 2022 Silverado 1500 Limited. The Limited will have LTD in the search bar at the end of the Silverado 1500 name – Silverado 1500 LTD. You can see an example what it would look like to shop for a Limited and "normal" Silverado below. 2022 SILVERADO 1500 MCE If you would like to read more about the mid-cycle enhancement 2022 Silverado 1500, see these two blog posts we did about the ZR2 and the changes you will see in MCE, and second, the engine changes being made on the 2.7L Turbo and the 3.0 Diesel. These changes will ONLY be seen on the MCE version, not the 2022 Silverado 1500 Limited. So when you read about changes to engines and improvements in the interior to the 2022 Silverado 1500, do not think Limited – that is a 2021 with minor changes. We will start ordering the new 2022 Silverado 1500 MCE in January 2022 if all goes to plan. That means we will see the MCE version hitting our lots sometime in Spring 2022. So if you have interest in a new ZR2 or other 2022 MCE versions, reach out to us to put a deposit on ordering one.
