Knapheide's rich history began in 1848 when Herman Heinrich Knapheide founded the Knapheide Wagon Company in Quincy, Illinois. Starting with wagon craftsmanship, Knapheide's dedication to quality soon transitioned to truck bodies, beginning with the installation of their first wagon body on a Ford Model T chassis in 1910.
In 1937, the company was officially renamed The Knapheide Manufacturing Company under the leadership of Harold W. Knapheide. Throughout the decades, Knapheide continually adapted to changing markets. Even during adversity, like the Mississippi River flooding their facility in 1973, Knapheide's resilience and commitment to customers prevailed.
